I look forward to the day when I no longer have to provide the community with COVID updates from RHAM.  Unfortunately, COVID continues to significantly impact the RHAM community.  RHAM Middle and High School continue to experience staffing challenges due to the number of staff members quarantined due to exposure outside of school and/or experiencing medical or childcare issues.  Also, we continue to see an increase in the number of students testing positive for COVID and/or having to quarantine due to exposure to students testing positive.  Yesterday we identified four high school students who tested positive and quarantined over twenty additional students due to exposure outside of school.  RHAM Middle and High School will both remain closed and students will engage in remote learning through December 11.  We hope to return to our in-school hybrid model on Monday, December 14.  Our goal is to do everything possible to keep our schools safe while taking every opportunity to have our students in school. We hope to accomplish this by keeping both schools in remote learning for the two weeks following Thanksgiving.

Please make sure to contact your child’s school if your child happens to test positive for COVID-19 during the time we are not physically in school.  Even though we will not be in the building we will still need to conduct contact tracing for any student or staff member testing positive in order to limit transmission within the community.

We hope everyone has a safe and joyful Thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing our students back in school on December 14.

ILLNESS PREVENTION IS THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE

The following are recommended measures that can lower the risk of illness, including COVID-19:
  • Frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol is recommended.
  • Avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover the mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Clean frequently touched objects and surfaces with a disinfectant product.
  • Avoid sharing of drinking cups, food, and other personal items.
  • Stay at home if you are ill to minimize the transmission of illness and disease.

It is important that parents communicate with their child’s teacher if they are out with illness.

STUDENTS SHOULD REMAIN AT HOME FROM SCHOOL WITH THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS OF COMMON ILLNESS OR DISEASE

  • Temperature of 100 degrees or greater. Students should be fever-free without use of a fever-reducing medication for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea. Students should remain at home until they have stopped vomiting for at least 24 hours and are able to tolerate fluids and solid foods.
  • Sore throat that is accompanied by fatigue, body aches, and fever.
  • A persistent/disruptive cough lasting for more than a few days or with fever.
  • Eye discomfort with itching, redness, pain, and drainage.
  • Skin rash suggestive of a communicable disease.

When reporting attendance to the school please provide as much detail as possible. Below are the attendance reporting forms.

RHAM Schools Cleaning Protocals

Classroom light switches, door knobs, hallway hand rails, bathroom fixtures, high touchpoint areas and cafeteria tables are cleaned and disinfected every day. Nursing offices are disinfected daily. Classroom desks are dis- infected weekly. State law limits the products that can be used to clean in schools to Green Clean Products.

DATTCO Transportation Cleaning Protocals

The School bus interior "high-traffic" surfaces are wiped down on a regular basis with disinfectant sprays and disposable towels. These areas include entrance handrails, driver compartment areas, and seat top surfaces most prone to repeated hand contact by passengers.
